BRITISH COLUMBIA, Canada — At least 14 new fires were detected in British Columbia, Canada, between Thursday, August 17 and Friday, August 18.Those 14 new locations bring the total individual fires burning across the province to about 380, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has reported the 2023 wildfire season is already B.C.'s most destructive on record. Chicago Air and Water Show 2023 kicks off over Lake Michigan Windy weather and lightning are expected to worsen fire conditions in the region going into the weekend, local news reported. GREEN ISLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Brooklyn man has pled guilty to multiple gun charges, according to the Department of Justice. Burlington Nieuenkirk, age 46, confessed on August 17 to illegally possessing three loaded firearms as a felon. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Nieuenkirk admitted that on April 30, 2020, while at a residence in Green Island, he knowingly was in possession of three loaded pistols, one of which had been reported stolen. A previous felony conviction for robbery prevented Nieuenkirk from legally owning firearms in New York.The case was investigated by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Albany County District Attorney’s Office. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Eric Edwards, 70, of Watervliet, was sentenced to 25 years in state prison for first-degree rape.
