DENVER (KDVR) -- Denver hit 85 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday this week breaking the previous record high temperatures on both days. Taking a look back on all of the temperature records that have been broken in Denver so far in 2023, this week's were the only record highs. The rest of the records have been low temperatures. A record low was reached in January at minus 10 degrees and two record lows happened this February that were both below zero. April has brought several extremes already with a record low of 11 degrees measured on April 5 and then six days later the record high of 85 degrees happened. The 85 degrees that happened on April 11th is the earliest in the year that Denver has ever hit 85 degrees. There are no record-breaking temperatures in the forecast for at least the next week.Residents of Larkspur start petition to stop construction of proposed truck stop

LARKSPUR, Colo. (KDVR) -- Nearly 1,100 residents in the area of Larkspur have signed a petition to "Stop the Truck Stop" currently proposed to be built off Upper Lake Gulch Road off Interstate 25. "I think people of Larkspur want progress but this isn’t progression, this is regression and it will destroy what makes Larkspur, Larkspur," Shawn Carroll, who moved there 13 months ago, said.Carroll said along with others he was originally under the impression that the area being developed would be a little travel oasis, he said that's how it was originally presented. He said they weren't expecting a 60-spot truck stop. "They are going to take away what makes this area attractive to so many," Carroll said. Sam Doyle, who has lived in Larkspur since 1981, said the big worry is the town's water, waste, and environmental impacts. And, of course, he said the traffic it would bring, especially with large semis, is of major concern. Denver no longer nation’s to...Two houses left in his yard

There’s an Emmanuel Macron-shaped shadow hovering over this week’s U.S. visit by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. In contrast to the French president — who in an interview with POLITICO tried to put some distance between the U.S. and Europe in any future confrontation with China over Taiwan and called for strengthening the Continent’s “strategic autonomy” — the Polish leader is underlining the critical importance of the alliance between America and Europe, not least because his country is one of Kyiv’s strongest allies in the war with Russia.“Instead of building strategic autonomy from the United States, I propose a strategic partnership with the United States,” he said before flying to Washington. In the U.S. capital, Morawiecki continued with his under-the-table kicks at the French president. “I see no alternative, and we are absolutely on the same wavelength here, to building an even closer alliance with the Americans. ...China must act against rising global hunger, new WFP boss McCain says

BRUSSELS — China and other powerful countries need to step up to help steer the world away from a potentially “catastrophic” hunger crisis this year, the new head of the United Nations’ World Food Programme said.Cindy McCain, an American diplomat and the widow of the late U.S. Senator John McCain, also told POLITICO that the EU and U.S. should see world hunger as a national security issue due to its impact on migration. She furthermore accused Russia of using hunger as a “weapon of war” by hindering exports of Ukrainian grain.McCain, formerly the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. food agencies, took the helm of the WFP on April 5 and begins her five-year term at a time of increasing world hunger. The number of people facing food insecurity around the world rose to a record 345 million at the end of last year, up from 282 million in 2021, according to the WFP’s figures, as Russia’s war in Ukraine deepened a food crisis driven by climate change, COVID-19 and other conflicts. This year ...Woman injured when light pole falls at shopping center parking lot in Nashua, NH

Tran works in the plaza. He said he saw what happened and called 911. Dozens of first responders soon arrived, huddling around the woman who was lying on the ground between Michaels and TJ Maxx locations. Tran said the woman was awake when she laid down, though her head was bleeding. Police said it’s unclear if the pole hit the woman or if she hit her head trying to get out of the way. While officials said they don’t believe anything hit the pole, witnesses said it was windy in the area.“The lady park...Rays win 12th straight to start season, 1 shy of MLB record
