Fans flocking to Pebble Beach for this weekend’s U.S. Women’s Open should just head to the legendary 17th hole — perhaps to see a legend-in-the-making comeback. That is where Stanford star Rose Zhang already has done her best work. And that is, of course, where other special moments have happened in U.S. Open history, albeit on the men’s side with Jack Nicklaus’ 1-iron in 1972 and Tom Watson’s chip-in a decade later.Zhang’s 1-under round Friday thrust her back into contention, but, first, she had to get back on on the right side of the cut line, and that happened at the 17th hole. After enduring an 18-hole stretch without a birdie, Zhang put on sunglasses, walked up to the 17th green, and rolled in a 10-foot birdie. That offset a bogey on the 16h hole, and it gave her momentum for her ensuing 10 holes; she started Friday’s round on the 10th tee.“I was able to hole a really, really good putt on 17, and that shifted my momentum into the (next) nine,” Zhang said. &...Naked man who tried to snatch officer's gun arrested for sexual battery in Fremont

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — A month ago, Chris Eubanks began the grass-court portion of the season that leads into Wimbledon at a lower-level ATP Challenger Tour event in Surbiton, England. The 27-year-old American walked away with about $2,500 in prize money after losing in straight sets in the second round to a player ranked outside the Top 100, which only served to reinforce a distaste for the green surface.Searching for answers, Eubanks reached out to International Tennis Hall of Famer Kim Clijsters, a four-time Grand Slam champion he befriended while playing World TeamTennis.“I was just kind of frustrated,” he recounted. “I sent her a text, and I was like, ‘Grass is the stupidest surface to play tennis on. Why are we playing tennis — a sport in which we need the ball to bounce — on a very inconsistent surface?’ And you can’t move on it.”Well, just look at Eubanks now: He eliminated No. 12 seed Cam Norrie of Britain 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (3) in 2 1/2 hours on No. 1 Court at Wimbledon...Banda answers Popp in 112th minute for Zambia to beat Germany 3-2 in Women’s World Cup warmup

FÜRTH, Germany (AP) — Zambia captain Barbra Banda scored in the 12th minute of injury time to negate Alexandra Popp’s equalizer two minutes before and deal Germany a 3-2 defeat in their last game before the Women’s World Cup.Popp, the Germany captain, thought she salvaged at least a draw on Friday when she scored in the 110th minute, the second of two injury time goals for the home team. But Banda made the most of a poor throw-in from Klara Bühl when she raced clear and let fly with a chip over Germany goalkeeper Merle Frohms from about 20 meters for the winner. It was the outstanding Banda’s second goal, the first set up by Racheal Kundananji in the 48th minute after a German player lost possession. Kundananji capitalized on another mistake to score Zambia’s second in the 54th.The win over the two-time champion will boost Zambia’s confidence ahead of its World Cup debut.
