Cupertino’s plastic foodware ordinance takes effect Plastic foodware ordinanceAn ordinance to reduce the use of single-use plastic foodware items went into effect in Cupertino on Wednesday, Sept. 6. The ordinance applies to cafes, restaurants and other food and beverage providers and restricts use of single-use plastic cups, containers and utensils. Food purveyors are required to provide items made from paper, paperboard, wood, bamboo and bagasse. Fiber-based foodware can be put into green organics waste carts and bins in Cupertino to be processed into compost. The ordinance also requires reusable foodware for dining in.Diners can report noncompliance at cupertino.org/311.
