Passenger Dead, Driver Arrested after DUI Collision on Byron Highway [Byron, CA] 1 Killed, 1 Arrested after DUI Accident near Clifton CourtBYRON, CA (July 18, 2023) – Saturday night, one passenger was killed and a driver was arrested after a DUI collision on Byron Highway.Police responded to the scene around 11:05 p.m., on the southbound lanes of the freeway just south of Clifton Court.For DUI related reasons, the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban veered off the road and traveled down an embankment.Medical crews arrived and pronounced the Chevrolet passenger dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics took the driver to a nearby hospital with significant injuries.Following preliminary duties, officers determined that the driver was intoxicated at the time. The Oakland City Council is set to vote on the mayor's raise Tuesday and a proposed raise of around $75,000 annually for the first-term mayor has raised eyebrows.Currently, Mayor Thao earns around $226,000 annually, making her the fourth highest paid mayor in the state.
