Dean Kremer, Orioles bullpen unable to show 2022 form in 8-4 loss to Athletics Part of the reason the Orioles could justify not being more aggressive in adding starting pitching this offseason was their confidence in their incumbent group. But then top pitching prospect Grayson Rodriguez wasn’t deemed ready for their season-opening rotation. He arrived only because Kyle Bradish exited his season debut in the second inning with a bruised right foot. On Wednesday, Dean Kremer, who opened the year as Baltimore’s No. 2 starter, continued to struggle in an 8-4 defeat to the Oakland Athletics. The Orioles’ bullpen joined Kremer in not looking like the 2022 version, as an Oakland team that entered the night as baseball’s worst struck for four runs over the final two innings, while Kremer again was unable to perform as the pitcher who was perhaps the most improved member of Baltimore’s breakout season.Overcoming a disastrous rookie season to become the most dependable member of the Orioles’ rotation in the year’s second half, th...

Patchwork Red Sox can’t keep up with unbeaten Rays in 9-7 loss Kiké Hernández in center field? Raimel Tapia in left? Yu Chang at second base? Bobby Dalbec at shortstop!?This, obviously, is not what anyone had in mind heading into the season. As injuries keep piling up it’s getting harder for the Red Sox to patch together a functional roster. Wednesday night things took a turn for the ridiculous when Masataka Yoshida was scratched due to right hamstring tightness, forcing the club to trot out its most unorthodox lineup yet.Even without several of their best hitters, the Red Sox still managed to put together one of their best offensive performances of the season, but at the end of the day they didn’t have the firepower to keep up with the high-powered Tampa Bay Rays, who won 9-7 to stay unbeaten at 12-0.Much of the pregame attention fell on Dalbec, who played 33 innings at shortstop during spring training but who had hardly any prior experience at the position entering the year. Naturally the first two balls put in play found their way...

After calls to resign, Feinstein seeks Judiciary replacement LOS ANGELES (AP) — Recuperating U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California asked Wednesday to be temporarily replaced on the Judiciary Committee, shortly after two House Democrats called on her to resign after her extended absence from Washington. In a statement, the long-serving Democratic senator said her recovery from a case of shingles she disclosed in early March had been delayed because of complications. She provided no date for her return to the Senate and said she had asked Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to ask the Senate to allow another Democratic senator to serve in her committee seat until she was able to return.“I intend to return as soon as possible once my medical team advises that it’s safe for me to travel,” Feinstein said. “In the meantime, I remain committed to the job and will continue to work from home in San Francisco.”Feinstein’s decision to seek a committee stand-in during her recovery comes amid increasing anxiety within her party that her lengthy ab...

‘It’s been chaos’: Cirque du Soleil causes traffic circus at Etobicoke location Cirque du Soleil has been back in Toronto for less than a week and already it is causing a traffic circus. After hoisting its tent at Ontario Place last year, the iconic big top was forced to relocate due to redevelopment plans at the lakefront location. It’s now situated at the former site of the Mr. Christie factory in Etobicoke, bringing with it a traffic nightmare – not just for those attending the show but for the thousands of residents living in the area. “It’s been chaos,” said Carrie Noble, who lives in a condominium across the street from the Cirque location. “It took so long for me just to get into my underground parking. I can’t believe that I have to deal with this for the next two months.”Area residents say they are concerned Cirque du Soleil didn’t think the decision through when choosing the location. “I don’t think they thought about the parking situation at all,” said Noble. “There’s...
